While transition is hard enough due to social commentary on every aspect of your life, financing it is sometimes just as -- or more so -- challenging.
In a recent article by Victoria Michaels, she highlights a resource called the Jim Collins Foundation (JCF), a nonprofit whose mission is to provide financial assistance to transgender people for gender-confirming surgeries, which are a necessity in order to live a healthy, normal life.
But the real issue to pave the way for smoother, less challenging gender transition is really based in employment issues: if a trans-persona can find, and/or maintain employment, they're more likely to be able to underwrite the costs of their transition. Which is not to say that healthcare should not be part of that equation, because it too should be.
Thus, the political and legal march needs to continue moving forward to ensure every transgender person access to affordable healthcare, and employment.
